CEDAR RAPIDS - Hot and humid weather conditions are expected all through the week, as the National Weather Service predicts the hear index to hit as high as 106 degrees almost every afternoon from Wednesday through next Monday.
In a hazardous weather statement issued by NWS Tuesday, isolated thunderstorms are possible in Eastern Iowa Tuesday evening. The storms are expected to also continue into the week, with more severe weather north of Interstate 90.
The statement was issued for East Central, Northeast and Southeast Iowa - including counties such as Linn and Johnson.
NWS predicts that as the week progresses, heat advisories and excessive heat warnings may eventually need to be issued.
A special weather statement had been issued for Linn, among other Iowa counties, on Tuesday as well, warning those planning on going outside to make sure to drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade.
