Betty Hein, 81, passed away October 28, 2022, at her home in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by family. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. Michael Erikson. Friends may visit an hour prior to the service at the church. Her ashes will be privately interred at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial.
Betty was born Feb. 17, 1941, the youngest child of Ernest and Lorraine (Evans) Lanning. Betty graduated from Center Point High School in 1960. She married Donald Hein on Oct. 9, 1965, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. They were blessed with twins, John and Robert in 1967. While the boys were in elementary school, she was a classroom assistant, and later worked at Killian’s, Armstrong’s, and Your Turn Boutique. Always an animal lover, Betty cared for her family's cats, backyard animals and “outdoor kitties.”
Betty is survived by Don, her loving husband of 57 years; sons, John of Orlando, Fla., and Robert (Amy) of Shoreview, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Gerry Lanning of Cedar Rapids, Neva Lanning of Marion, and Shirley Lanning of Alburnett; and many nieces and nephews. She is reunited in heaven with her parents; brothers, LaVern, Harold, and Richard Lanning; sister, Juanita Miller; and brother-in-law, Leonard Miller.
The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or the Linn County Animal Humane Society.
