As Halloween nears, the best way to get into the spirit is by sitting down and watching a spooky movie. On this list, you will find the best of the best, from family-friendly to scary thrillers. Ranked by ghosts on a scale of one to five, five being the least scary.
Scream
This horror classic released in 1996 features Skeet Ulrich and Neve Campbell. In their small town a year after her mother's murder, Ghostface strikes again. In a variety of twists and turns, Sidney discovers the killer is someone who she never thought would betray her. Scream is a beautifully shot and directed by Wes Craven. This movie gets four out of five ghosts.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Rocky Horror Picture Show is a classic movie that is filled with fun traditions that can be added. After Brad and Jane get married they drive and find a castle, when they go inside they find many musical surprises. Many people also add props from home during certain scenes. Some include party hats, cards, and newspapers. This movie can be a bit crazy sometimes and for that reason, it gets three out of five ghosts.
Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice follows a ghost named (you guessed it) Beetlejuice who wants to become a human. After a couple dies in a car crash he decides they should haunt the house and have someone say his name. If Beetlejuice is said three times, he becomes a human. When he meets Lydia played by Winona Ryder, he decides she will be the perfect victim. This movie has it all from jumpscares, and musical numbers, to funny jokes. This movie gets three out of five ghosts.
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters released in 1984 is a classic year round but especially during Halloween. Ghostbusters follows a group of scientists who lose their jobs and decide to begin ghost-hunting for money. But, when a secret passageway to another dimension opens up they have to ensure that they can capture the ghosts and save New York City. This movie is a family favorite and is not scary so its perfect for any age to watch. This movie gets four out of five ghosts
