Firefighters stop small chlorine leak at Cedar Rapids water treatment plant

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a chlorine leak at the water treatment plant Friday morning. No injuries were reported, and the city’s water supply was not exposed to contaminants.
Firefighters were called to the plant, at 761 J Ave. NE, at 9:15 a.m. They were told there was a possible chlorine leak in a treatment area, according to a news release. Firefighters were able to identify the source of the leak and stop it with tools on hand.
The leak was minor and controlled within the plant, according to the release.
“At no point was the water supply to residents exposed to contaminants,” the release states.
