Fun Facts: Northwestern-Iowa (Warning: It may not all seem especially fun)

Fun. This stuff is fun. Never mind everything else you’ve thought, heard or read lately. It’s fun. Like these Fun Facts about Northwestern-Iowa football:

1. Unlike three of Iowa’s following four games, there is no traveling trophy to the winner of this one.

2. Northwestern is tied with USC for the longest active winning streak by a visiting team at Kinnick Stadium, with three. USC hasn’t played at Iowa since 1975, but it’s on its way back there sometime before this decade is over.

3. Since ending a 21-game losing streak to Iowa in 1995, the Wildcats are 14-11 against the Hawkeyes.

4. The visiting team has won six of the last seven games in this series.

5. Iowa had six turnovers in its last game, at Ohio State. That was the Hawkeyes’ most since it had six in a 42-24 win over Indiana in 2009. The Iowa men’s basketball team had six turnovers in its 75-66 win over Purdue in the Big Ten men’s basketball championship game last March.

6. Northwestern hasn’t passed for over 143 yards in any of its last four games.

7. Iowa is 3-0 in games in which Alex Padilla has started at quarterback.

8. Northwestern safety Jeremiah Lewis is from Lewisville, Texas.

9. Iowa has lost its last three games. It hasn’t had a four-game losing streak since 2012.

10. Northwestern has a 12-game losing streak on American soil.

11. Future Big Ten teams UCLA and USC have one-game losing streaks.

12. Iowa has 21 players from Illinois. Northwestern has 19.

13. Iowa’s offense has three touchdowns over the last four games. So does the Hawkeyes’ defense.

14. The Hawkeyes haven’t scored a touchdown in their last 28 possessions.

15. The Big Ten’s No. 13 offense, Rutgers, averages 102.6 yards more per game than Iowa.

16. Iowa needs to average 312.4 yards in its final five games to avoid having the Big Ten’s worst yards-per-game average since 1999. The Hawkeyes are averaging 227.3.

18. Iowa is tied for fourth in the nation in fewest plays of 10-plus yards allowed, sixth in total defense, eighth in scoring defense. See, it’s not all bad.

19. Luke Donald, Europe’s 2023 Ryder Cup captain, graduated from Northwestern with a degree in art. Zach Johnson, the United State’s 2023 Ryder Cup captain, graduated from Drake.

20. Evanston Township High School’s teams are called the Wildkits. The school mascot is Willie the Wildkit.
