Joan E. (Villhauer) Hummer, age 88, long time resident of Oxford died Monday, October 24, 2022.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, October 28, 2022, at St. Mary’s Auditorium in Oxford, with burial to follow at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Joan’s memory to Essence of Life Hospice in Amana or Oxford Fire/First Responders. Joan Earlene Villhauer was born November 22, 1933 (11/22/33), in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Louie and Minnie (Price) Villhauer. Joan was the lucky number 13 of 14 children born to the iconic Iowa City family of Louie and Minnie Villhauer. Attending schools in Iowa City she graduated from City High School with the Class of 1951. Later that summer she married Buck Hummer on August 17th. The couple made their home in Oxford where Joan was a co-founder and partner in her and Buck’s trucking business, Buck Hummer Trucking. Joan enjoyed sewing, traveling, crocheting, quilting, and making mints.
Her family includes her children, Donald (Dru) Hummer, and Connie (Tony) Steckly; grandchildren,Tuffy (Shannon) Hummer, Dan (Melissa) Hummer, Stephanie (Mike) Lynch, Chris (Amy) Hummer, Emily (Brian Latusick) Hummer, Bethany (Conrad) Schmidt, Andrew (Emily) Hummer, Mary Jo (Joe) Hummer-Campbell, Jessica (Paul) Ruckebeil, Ashton (Robert) Linnell, Bryce (Katie) Steckly, Joa (Mark) Henrichs and Tyler Hummer; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Logan, Madison, Hallie, Owen, Clara, Connor, Xavier, Maximus, Macklane, Macy, Lainey, Lylie, Kinsey, Hannah, Harrison, Paxton, Sawyer, Truett, Burton, August, Mason, Paul, Penelope, Peyton, Brooks, Ford, Ethan, Cole, Jayden, Spencer and Holden; Great-Great Grand Children, Jaxon and Ruthie; and Joan’s sister-in-law, Marcia Villhauer.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Buck; sons, John and Ronald; grandson, Adam; sisters and their spouses, Marie (Bob) Svatos, Gretchen (Ray) Hess, Letha (Bob) Hein, Anna LaChrista (Kenneth) Shockley, Henrietta Villhauer and Louise (Ed) Huffman; brothers and their spouses, Howard (Mary) Villhauer, Donnie Villhauer, Carl (Elouise) Villhauer, Leo (Marilyn) Villhauer, David (Maisie) Villhauer, Louie (Dorothy) Villhauer, and Herman (Freda) Villhauer.
