Patrick Joseph Curtin was born May 5, 1944, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Eleanor (Casey) Curtin. He was baptized and confirmed at St John’s the Baptist - West Ridge Church and attended St. Pat’s School in Waukon.
As a young man, he went right into farming, something he loved. He found the love of his life, Kathryn O’Neill, who lived over the valley of West Ridge. The two became one through marriage on July 4, 1964, and raised a family of five on the farm. Pat taught his kids the love of farming and good work ethic. Pat and Kate milked cows for years as a team and always enjoyed their beef herd.
Pat loved to take his family on trail rides on Sundays and spent many hours walking the Hill of the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. He had a passion for tractors, auctions, playing cards, country music, going on deer runs every night, quite a few high-speed chases through Patterson Creek, and many rides to Bluffton, Highlandville, and the Sattre Store. When you hopped in the vehicle with Pat, you knew it would be a wild ride and for sure a good time! You also didn’t know if you would be home in one hour or eight hours. Pat was proud of his Irish heritage and owning the St. John the Baptist – West Ridge Church. If you met him, you liked him and if you knew him, you loved him. KEEP SMILING!!
Survivors include his wife, Kate of Waukon; his children, Todd of Waukon, Tina (Myron) Parizek of Walford, Iowa, Tammy (Kerry) Troendle of Waukon, Travis (Mindy) Curtin of Oxford, Iowa, and Trampes (Lisa) Curtin of Waukon; 12 grandchildren, Keegan (Natalie), Konner (Lauren) and Katie Parizek, Shayla and Seth (Alex) Troendle, Shelby (David) Richards, Brooklyn, Tanner, Sloane, Maycie, Graine and Ridge Curtin; three great-grandkids, Abbi and Killian Troendle and Baby Parizek on the way; one sister, Mary Curtin; and two brothers, Den (Vickie) Curtin and Reg (Cindy) Curtin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
All of Pat's Irish grandchildren are honorary casketbearers. Casketbearers are Mike Farley, Dale and Ed Urell, Ura Gingerich, Henry Borntreger, and Todd Blake.
