David Gee
Cedar Rapids
David Gee, 71, Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022.
He was born on July 1, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, to Albert and Dorothy Gee. David was always energetic, running literal circles around his two sisters, Aleta and Jean; and two brothers, Daniel and Steven. David enjoyed his siblings, however, he notably was annoyed when Daniel and Steven more than once followed him to school while they were too young to even attend.
As an adult David served in the U.S. Army while living in Germany, carrying the love of German beer throughout his entire life. After returning, David met and married his wife, Devonna, on Aug. 12, 1978. Together they raised three kids, Travis Gee, Carissa Gee (Oltmann) and Austin Gee.
David and Devonna owned and operated Gee Grading & Excavating, Inc., where David cultivated and fostered many wonderful working relationships with peers that often turned into lifelong friendships. More than a man of business, David was a wonderfully quirky guy. He could often be found pounding the pavement, listening to loud music and driving his cars way too fast-according to Devonna. He loved laughing without regard to volume, loved being surrounded by family, indulging in many sweets and confusing his younger children with antiquated movie quotes.
If you knew him it wouldn’t be any surprise to know he disliked liars, lazy people, fake people, thieves -- you know, Democrats.
Hoist a beer and grab some grub to celebrate the life and legacy of David Gee. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
