Richard Lewis, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, at Corridor Crossing Place. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Brosh Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Richard was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., the son of George F. and Ellen (Chamberlin) Lewis. He worked for CRANDIC for over 41 years (1950-1952) and (1954-1991). Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, where he repaired engineer equipment. He was united in marriage to Kathleen E. Franks on June 30, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Richard was a past member of the Fairfax American Legion, the Moose Lodge and was a Troop leader for the Boy Scouts, as well as assisting with the Girl Scouts. He enjoyed bowling, hunting rabbit, deer and raccoon, fishing, going to the casino, where he played penny slots and penny poker with neighbors and friends. He enjoyed camping, where he began with his family in a canvas tent, later progressing to a 5th-wheel, where he and his wife spent several winters in Arizona. Richard loved to host pig roast parties for family and friends. He was a diehard Cub fan, and most pleased to see them win a World Series. He was known for his homemade bread and loved to share them with as many people as he could.
Richard is survived by his children, Charles J. Lewis, William K. Lewis and Crystal D. Lewis; grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Jamie, Jennifer, Kelly, Andrew, Joseph and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Piper, Jace, Abel, Jaxon, Blaken, Seneca and MarryElle; his sister, Mary N. Lewis; two brothers Joseph B. (Donna) Lewis and Russell (Jackie) Lewis; brother-in-law, Kenny Koutz; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings, Nelson Lewis, Wendell Lewis, Roseann Koutz, Frances (Evan) Heldt and an infant sister.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in his name.
