Manford “Mike” Louis Stegen, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2022. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington, Iowa.
Mike was born June 2, 1930, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Hans and Ruth (Miekel) Stegen. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1949-50. Mike was united in marriage to Janice Hyde, the love of his life, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He worked most of his life as a truck driver; he spent 20 years working for Jensen Transportation, and then drove school buses for the College Community School District. Mike fully retired after driving buses for Kings & Queens Coaches. He was a member of American Legion Post 298 in Marion, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Stegen of Cedar Rapids; children, Rick (Kela) Stegen, David Stegen, Pamela (Harold) Pagel, Kathy (Lowell) Smith and Brenda (Mark) Murphy, all of Eldora, Iowa; stepson, Jeff (Stacy) Johnson of Swisher, Iowa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
