Zeb Noland to transfer from Iowa State

AMES - Iowa State redshirt sophomore quarterback Zeb Noland is transferring to another school to get more playing time, Cyclones Coach Matt Campbell announced Monday.

Noland took over for Kyle Kempt when Kempt went down with a knee injury during the loss to Iowa in Iowa City. Noland started three games for Iowa State this season. He went 1-2 as a starter, beating Akron and losing to Oklahoma and TCU.

Noland got the first series of the Oklahoma State game, but was benched after going three-and-out on the first drive. He was replaced by true freshman Brock Purdy, who has since taken over the starting job.

Noland completed 63 percent of his passes for 722 yards and four touchdowns. He only threw one interception.

'I want to thank Zeb for his time at Iowa State,” Campbell said in a statement released by the school. 'He notified me of his decision to transfer in order to find more playing time. I respect Zeb's decision and we will assist him in his process of finding another school.”

Purdy is 3-0 when he gets significant snaps, including beating then-No. 21 Oklahoma State and then-No. 6 West Virginia.

Purdy has completed 65 percent of his passes for 822 yards and nine touchdowns. Purdy also adds a rushing element to his game. He has 202 yards on the ground and one touchdown.

Purdy's backup will be sixth-year senior Kyle Kempt, who has recovered from his early-season knee injury. Kempt suited up for Iowa State's win over Texas Tech on Saturday.
