Mercy Cedar Rapids hosting 32nd annual Especially For You Race Against Breast Cancer

Oct. 5, 2022 2:02 pm
Mercy Hospital’s annual Especially For You Race Against Breast Cancer will take place Sunday. The race includes a 5K run, a 5K walk, or a one-mile family fun walk.
Registration for the race costs $37 for ages 16 and older, and $22 for ages 15 and younger. Money from the race provides funding for mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and other gynecological cancer screenings and services for people in need.
More than 15,000 people have already registered for this year’s race. Registration is available online until race day, and on-site registration will be available from 7 to 7:45 a.m. in front of Hall-Perrine Cancer Center the morning of the race.
The highest registration count the race has had was 15,792 people registered, according to race director Jeff Decker. Decker said he’s hopeful that this year’s registration can beat that record.
“I have my fingers crossed. If we can get a strong showing the next few days and on race day, I think we can make a run for it,” Decker said.
A map of the race, including recommended parking areas, is available online. It will start on 10th Street SE in front of Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, head down Second Avenue across the river, then turn around and head back up Second Avenue, making a few additional turns before ending at Greene Square.
After the race there will be activities at Greene Square, including a health fair, food trucks, kids’ activities and music.
The temperature Sunday morning will be in the 40s, but should increase throughout the day. It will be a sunny day, with little chance of rain.
