Russell A. Miller, 78, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at his home in rural Iowa City, following a short battle with leukemia.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A celebration of life will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at the Windham Bar and Grill, 1747 Black Diamond Rd. SW, Oxford, IA 52322.
Memorial funds can be directed to Sharon Center United Methodist, Iowa City West High, or Iowa City Hospice. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Russell Alan Miller was born June 6, 1944, in Iowa City, the son of Delbert E. and Lucile (Smith) Miller. He attended Boone #5 rural school, Kalona High School, and graduated from Iowa City High. He attended Simpson College for two years and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in farm operations. Russell farmed and milked cows for over 20 years, poured concrete for Casey’s Stores, and operated heavy equipment; dozing and scraping. He married Barb Anderson and had two children, Scott and Deborah, and the couple later divorced. He married Joy Jennings and had a son, Rustin. They later divorced. Russell was overall Grand Champion Dairy Showman at the 1964 Little International. He enjoyed camping, baling hay, and reading newspapers and magazines. Russell was very proud that all his children and stepchildren graduated from Iowa City West High.
Survivors include three children, Scott R. Miller of Columbus Junction, Deborah L. Miller of Virginia Beach, Va., and Rustin (Sonya) Miller of Kalona; two stepchildren, Jodi Boone of Riverside and Jill (Jake) Ressler of Swisher; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two siblings, Robert (Karen) Miller of Sharon Center and Ann Butcher of Mason City; and special friend, Sharon Donohoe of Oxford.
Preceding Russell in death were his parents and stepson, Travis Jennings.
