Vern Virgil McMurray, Jr., 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A celebration of Vern’s life will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, at the Union Station, 1724 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids.

Vern was born Jan. 22, 1947, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Mary Loretta (Knutsen) and Virgil Vern McMurray. He worked for P&H Crane, Iowa Manufacturing (Terex Cranes), and Goss International. Vern was united in marriage to Kathy Clarke on Oct. 3, 1997, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Vern was an avid pool player who was well-known and respected in the community. He also was an avid softball player, which was really a drinking team with a softball problem. Vern enjoyed fishing and hot rods. He loved spending time with his grandkids.

Survivors include his son, Mike (Christine) McMurray of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Chase and Raegan; and brother, John McMurray.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy McMurray; father, Virgil McMurray; mother, Mary McMurray; brothers, Jack McMurray and Jim McMurray; father-in-law, Robert Clarke; and mother-in-law, Bernice Clarke.
