Delores Mae Werling, 90, Tipton, Iowa, died Sept. 30, 2022, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry Christ Ruchotzke and Florence Minnie Kageman Ruchotzke.
Memorial services for Delores will be determined at a later time in November. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church of Tipton.
Delores was born March 16, 1932, near Lowden, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Lowden. She graduated from Lowden High School in 1949.
She married Bryce John Werling on Jan. 27, 1952, and they had five children. They lived most of their married life on their farm near Tipton.
Prior to her marriage Delores was employed at the Cedar County Treasurer’s office and the Extension Office of Tipton. Later after the children graduated, she was employed by Kirkwood Community College as an adult basic education instructor. She enjoyed her role as housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and teaching her special clients for many years. In each of these roles, she shared much love, comfort and unending support. She loved flower gardening in her many, many flower beds; baking cookies for her grandchildren and hosting family and friend gatherings. Her social activities brought her much joy.
Her love for her Jesus, her unshakable faith, and her family were portrayed in her membership and volunteer work with Trinity Lutheran Church, the special vacations with her family, active membership in Silver Star Circle of Kings Daughters, the enjoyment of her card clubs, her morning breakfast group, her visits to Nursing Homes and others in need and the Florida vacation every year.
Delores is survived by her children, Lynn (Ken) DeKock, Marion, Mark (Cheryl) Werling, Swisher, Brian (Monica) Werling, Winter Garden, Fla., Kim (Frank) Becicka, Shueyville; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ron Ruchotzke, Hanna City, Ill. and Larry Ruchotzke, Urbana; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bryce; her son, Bryce Collin; her brothers, Duane and Gary (Cooper); her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Beverly Oldham; brother-in-law, Eldon Werling; her sister-in-law, Charlotte Ruchotzke; and her father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Mildred Werling.
Delores was a devoted and loving person to all. She had a strong reliance on her faith and family and these were the foundation of how she lived her life, treated others and found her strength at times of great sorrow and challenge. She was loved by so many and will be remembered and missed by her family, old and new friends.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Tipton Senior Citizens’ Center or Camp Courageous. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.
