M. Louise Paxton, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church by Pastor Bonnie Koeppen. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Burial: 2 p.m. at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
Surviving are two sons, Dan (Donnette) Paxton of Central City, Iowa, and Larry (Mary) Paxton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren, Sarah (Vince) Hyman, Christopher Paxton, Johnathan (Brandi) Paxton, Nicholas (Brenda) Paxton and Stephen Paxton; three great-grandchildren, Paxton Hyman, Kora Paxton and Michael Paxton; and sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Paxton of Ottumwa and Marian Paxton of Laramie, Wyo. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Paxton Jr.; son, Steven Paxton; daughter, Janis Paxton; sisters, Lucille Emry and Evelyn Huffman; brothers-in-law, Jim Emry, Phil Paxton, Merritt Paxton and Loyal Roop; and sister-in-law, Virginia Roop.
Margaret was born Sept. 15, 1926, near Martinsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Mae (Messerschmitt) Campbell. She graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1944 and attended the University of Iowa and Iowa State Teachers College, receiving a two-year teaching certificate. She taught in Martinsburg for almost five years. She married David Paxton Jr. on Aug. 3, 1947, at the Martinsburg Methodist Church. After living in Martinsburg and Kinross, Iowa, the family moved to Cedar Rapids in December 1965. She was library secretary at Jefferson High School for 11 years. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for almost 30 years and was a member of the Library Team for a number of years. She also enjoyed reading, camping, Rock and Read at Madison School for 10 years, her TOPS group and time with family and friends.
