LaVerna Kulhavy, 95, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A gathering will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids. A private family graveside service will be held at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
LaVerna was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Libbie (Holets) Stastny. She was united in marriage to William Kulhavy on April 7, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church. LaVerna worked as a waitress, and in retirement she volunteered for 14 years at Mercy Hospital. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Griffith of Cedar Rapids and Suzanne (Scott) Woodward of Ely, Iowa; son, Bill (Lesta) Kulhavy of Marion, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Svoboda.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Libbie Stastny; husband, William Kulhavy; sister, Bernice Merta; and son-in-law, Gary Griffith.
