Martin L. Evans, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2022. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Martin was born June 14, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Howard Evans and Thelma Ann Beardsley. He graduated from Jefferson High School. After graduation Martin served honorably in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Mary B. Becker on Aug. 2, 1975. Martin worked for J.S. Cooks and managed Sandy’s Hamburgers before working security at Kelly Security, US Bank, and the United States Attorney’s office. He was a member of New Disciples Church and First Christian Church. Martin was a past member of the VFW. He loved movies, listening to old country music, his fur babies, and his cookies.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa (Don) Phillips of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Sydnee Phillips (Christopher Young) and Savanna Phillips, all of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Jim (Pat) Evans of Shellsburg, Iowa, Bob (Didi) Evans, Chuck (Becky) Evans, all of Cedar Rapids, and Kay Ann (Al) Welch of Shellsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Evans, in 2012; and brother, Tom Evans.
