Jeanne Sandra Chelikowsky, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, at Meth-Wick senior living community surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, 2424 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Following the memorial service, the family will host a luncheon at the church. A private family inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jeanne Sandra Chelikowsky was born on Oct. 7, 1939, in Manhattan, Kan., the daughter of Fletcher and Gwendolyn (Paslay) Booth. After high school, she graduated from Kansas State University with studies in home economics and interior design. Jeanne was united in marriage on May 28, 1961, in Manhattan, Kan., to Richard “Chili” Chelikowsky, also of Manhattan, Kan. She worked part-time at Lovely Lane as a preschool teacher and church secretary as well as participating in various volunteer activities. Jeanne was a longtime member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church since just shy of its inception.
As a young couple, and throughout life, Dick and Jeanne took many camping trips with the family. During their retirement, they traveled all over the country in their travel trailer. Jeanne loved nature, outdoor activities, and playing bridge with a dear group of friends. She was gifted at interior design and was a talented seamstress and painter. Jeanne enjoyed crafts of all types including sewing, stained glass, knitting, needlework, card making and more. Her creations were almost always made as gifts for others, whether that be for the community, church, family or friends. Jeanne was a treasure to those whose lives she touched.
Jeanne is survived by her three children, Marie Chelikowsky, Laura (Bob) Mackey and John (Toni) Chelikowsky; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Brandon) Sullivan, Nathan (Ginny) Mackey and Parker Chelikowsky; one great-grandchild, Katherine “Katie” Mackey; sister, Rebecca (George) Pate; brother-in-law, Jim (Ellen) Chelikowsky; five nephews, Steve (Susan) Pate, David Pate, Brian (Kim) Savini, Matt (Mallory) Carter and Todd (Christina) Carter; and many loving grandnieces, grandnephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Susan Pate; and loving husband, Richard “Chili” Chelikowsky.
