Dennis "Buzz" Aswegan
Dennis "Buzz" Aswegan
Marion
The family of Dennis "Buzz" Aswegan are deeply saddened to share the sudden loss of their loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to all who knew him. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, writer and lover of music and the Hawks. He had the biggest heart, best cast and a way with words.
His heart failed and the angels took him home on Sept. 19, 2022. He has joined his grandparents, Gladys and Harold, Evelyn and Leonard; his father, Dennis; uncle, Johnny; aunt, Patty; uncle, Gary; and cousins, Sheila and Don, in heaven.
Born Sept. 6, 1976, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at St. Luke's Hospital to LeeAnn and Dennis D. Aswegan.
Buzz was born with a song in his heart, and a fishin’ pole in his hand.
Growing up, Buzz graduated from Center Point-Urbana High School in 1995. He was extremely active in football, baseball, track and basketball. Being the multi-faceted guy that he was, Buzz was equally involved in the arts, and enjoyed participating in show choir.
Buzz had a distinct and contagious laugh. He always wore a smile and told those dear to him that he loved them. His heart was as big as his personality. He was always there when you needed him. Buzz knew his way around the kitchen and loved to cook for friends and family.
His deepest love, besides his family, was fishing. That is where he always wanted to be.
Buzz is survived by his mother and fishing partner, LeeAnn Nost; stepmother, Carmen; brothers, Marc Bradley (Lori) of Pullayup, Wash., and Michael Aswegan (Heather) of Anamosa, Iowa; sisters, Sheri Lyons (Larry) of New York and Sara Aswegan (Brian) of Switzerland; nieces, Erin, Emily, Caroline and Lilliana; nephews, Ryan, Jordan, Logan and Aidan; uncles, Jim (MJ) Aswegan, Craig (Ann) Aswegan, Rollyn (Marlene) Aswegan, Bob Fish and Billy Nost; aunt, Donna (Mac) Svoboda; and cousins around the globe. He will especially be missed by cousin, Curtis, his fellow fishing partner and team “Go Walleyes.”
Buzz’s wishes were for his person to be cremated and his remains to be spread at his favorite fishing spot. This will take place this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at Indian Creek during an intimate ceremony with those that knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life for those unable to attend will be held at a later date.
In lieu of cards and flowers, memorial donations will be accepted and be directed to the creation of a memorial bench at Indian Creek in Buzz’s honor and may be directed via Venmo @BuzzMemorialFund.
