Having grown up in northeast Iowa watching Liz Mathis every night on the news, it brought back happy memories to hear Liz’s voice and see her reporting the news in the 1990s in her campaign commercial.
As we now live in a world of online misinformation campaigns conducted by foreign enemies to sway our elections, having trusted local journalism is more important than ever.
Freedom of the press is about discovering and reporting the truth — and is the bedrock of American democracy. Without the media, some of the worst Washington scandals carried out by members of both parties may have never been revealed to the American public. There is a very good reason our forefathers made freedom of speech the First Amendment to the Constitution.
The media helps hold the government accountable, call out authoritarian leaders who abuse their power and expose wealthy business leaders who use their political influence to maintain inequalities.
One of the reasons Liz Mathis is such a great legislator is because of her journalism background and her commitment to the truth, fairness and democratic governance.
We need a congresswoman in Washington who is an effective leader with a track record of working across the aisle to get things done for Iowa, helping her constituents with problems at home and being a champion for American democracy.
Liz Mathis is the right woman for the job. I hope you join me in voting for Liz Mathis for the U.S. Congress in Iowa’s 2nd District.
