Constance Jean Cox, 79, of Hiawatha, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center. A visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. A funeral Mass will follow the visitation and begin at 11 a.m.
Constance was born March 27, 1943, to Bernard and Vera (McDonnell) Houlahan in Ryan, Iowa. After she graduated from high school, she went on to nursing school in Dubuque, Iowa, and later worked for Collins Radio. She met the love of her life Mark Cox, and they were married on March 1, 1965. With her husband, they co-owned Cedar Rapids Drywall for 50 years.
Connie was a smart woman with a quick wit and infectious laugh. She was a woman with a strong opinion and even stronger faith. She was blessed with lifelong friends. She enjoyed traveling, eating out, shopping and socializing. She loved seeing new places, trying new things and meeting new people.
Connie was a devoted wife and wonderful mother and grandmother. Her love was a sustaining force for her family. Her integrity, her compassion and her intelligence are reflected in her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Cox; daughter, Colleen (Jim) Price, grandson, Mitchell Licup; granddaughters, Jessica and Jenna Licup; two sisters, JoAnn (Ed) O’Donnell and Maureen (Miles) McDonald; sister-in-law, Sue Gammill; and brother-in-law, Mike Cox.
Constance was preceded in death by her son, Mark Cox Jr.; parents, Bernard and Vera Houlahan; in-laws, Troy and Bonnie Cox; brother-in-law, Coleman Gammill; and sister-in-law, Therese Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
