Barbara Ann Smejkal, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital. Entrusted with arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held at a later date.
Barbara was born Jan. 2, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to William and Rose (Formanek) Mochal. She married Leo Smejkal on July 18, 1953, in Cedar Rapids. Barbara was a homemaker and devoted mother.
During the winter season, she traveled with her husband in their motorhome. Their travels took them to Florida and Mississippi, where she enjoyed meeting people and making good, long-lasting friends along the way. Barbara enjoyed being outdoors, bird watching and doing yard work. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Leo; children, Lisa (Karl) Palmer and Scott Smejkal; her grandchildren, Lindsay (Cody) West, Avery (Elaine Brandt) Palmer and Nikolas Palmer; great-grandchildren, Noah Palmer, Jayden and Hayden West; her sister-in-law, Elsie Mochal; brother-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Smejkal; many nieces, nephews and her special woof woof Corky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wayne Mochal.
Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
