Clarence
Barnell “Barney” H. Rowold, 95, of Clarence, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clarence. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Lowden Cemetery.
Barney was born March 12, 1927, in Lowden, Iowa, to Herman and Emelie (Kreinbring) Rowold. He married Helen Burmeister on Dec. 26, 1951, at Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; granddaughter, Carrie (Chad) Nierling of Iowa City; great-granddaughter, Paige Nierling of Iowa City; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Terry; brothers Ed and Bill; and sister Marie Goldsmith.
Barney proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. He was a lifelong farmer and was a great husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Barney had served on the church council and the coop board in previous years.
