Iowa State offensive coordinator Tom Manning joining Indianapolis Colts staff

AMES – Iowa State football offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Tom Manning accepted a job as an assistant coach with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, an Iowa State spokesperson confirmed to The Gazette on Saturday.

Manning spent two seasons at Iowa State, transforming Iowa State's offense into one of the best in school history. The Cyclones scored 40 points five times last season, which tied the school record.

The Cyclones were also sixth in the Big 12 in passing offense, throwing for 3,548 yards. Running back David Montgomery also racked up 1,146 yards on the on the ground, the second most in the Big 12.

Manning's offensive line only allowed 19 sacks in 13 games, which was the second best in the Big 12.

Coach Matt Campbell has two jobs open with the departure of Manning. The offensive coordinator position, and the 10th assistant job the NCAA added after the season.
