Electing good candidates requires support

Edmund Burke said “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” Perhaps it would do us all good to take note of these challenging words and then say a prayer and ask the good Lord what part He would have you play. Here in Linn County we have a slate of Republican candidates who made the decision to answer the call and have stepped up to be a part of the solution to the evil that is seemingly becoming more prevalent day by day.
I can’t help but think how each of these candidates must have felt as they decided to file their official papers. Maybe it was, “Well … here we go!” Or maybe, “Here goes nothing!” Or, “Geronimo!” Or maybe even, “Let’s roll!”
Regardless of the thoughts that were rolling around in their minds, in that moment, none of them made the decision to run for office thinking they were going it alone. No, they each knew that for them to succeed it would take the help of their families, it would involve help from you and me and their neighbors all working together for the common good. For you see, Edmond Burke went on to say, “when bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.”
