Charles Alvin Ziesemer, 99, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa, Iowa. Private family services will be held with inurnment in Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Charles was born on Jan. 11, 1923, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Charles F. and Ella (Behnke) Ziesemer. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, during World War II, and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. Charles was united in marriage to Evelyn Jensen in 1949 in Chicago, Ill. She preceded him in death in 2004. Charles worked as a machinist for National Oats in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the VFW and Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion. Charles enjoyed fishing, watching stock car races, Cubs baseball and his retirement hobby of restoring a 1929 Chevy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charles is survived and lovingly remembered by his three children, Allan (Karla) Ziesemer of Omaha, Neb., Diana Hinton of Marion and Sharon (Roger) Lundin of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren, Christopher (Lydia) Hinton, Matthew Hinton, and Kristen (William) Rogers; and three great-grandchildren, Brennen, Braeden and Collin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Ziesemer; and grandson, James A. Ziesemer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Charles memory may be directed to the family.
