Iowa State lands QB Brock Purdy

AMES — Iowa State's football coaching staff made a late push for Gilbert, Ariz., quarterback Brock Purdy.

On Wednesday, national signing day, the Cyclones landed the 6-foot-1, 200-pound quarterback.

Purdy chose Iowa State over Texas A&M. Alabama and UCF were eliminated from Purdy's list earlier this week.

Purdy put up video-game like numbers for Perry High School. He threw for 4,405 yards with a 65 percent completion percentage, 57 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. He also ran 137 times for 1,017 yards and nine touchdowns.

In total, he accounted for 66 touchdowns as a senior.

Purdy joins Re-al Mitchell as quarterbacks in the class of 2018 for the Cyclones. Mitchell enrolled early at Iowa State, in January.

According to 247Sports, Purdy is the No. 36 prostyle quarterback in the class and Mitchell is the No. 29 dual-threat quarterback.

Quarterback was a position of need for the Cyclones with Kyle Kempt's situation still is up in the air. Iowa State only has two returning quarterbacks listed on its roster in Zeb Noland and Devon Moore. Moore tore his ACL and red-shirted as a freshman.
