Thomas “Tom” P. Loughren, 72, of Prairieburg, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa. Funeral Mss will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, with Father Sean Smith officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Prairieburg.
Tom was born on Nov. 3, 1949, in Monti, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Helen (Henry) Loughren. He attended Prairieburg Catholic School. On April 4, 1970, Tom was united in marriage to Judy Bohren in Central City. Over the years he worked as a cement finisher for Eddy’s Concrete and a laborer Waste Management. Tom loved his fur babies, Mater, Bitsy, and Cracker. He enjoyed playing pool, drag racing, NASCAR racing, tractor pulls, going to swap meets and tinkering with cars. Tom had a passion for antique cars and going to classic car cruises. He cherished the time he spent hanging out with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighbors. Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tom is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Susan (Lance) Bistline of Walker, Iowa, and Lisa (Chris) Seaton of Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Hovey of Evansdale, Iowa, and JoAnn Zeman of Monticello, Iowa; brothers, Leo (Karen) Loughren of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dick Elliott of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Dick Smith of Marion, Tom Wendel of Cedar Rapids and Jerry (Joyce) Bohren of Prairieburg; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Peg Smith and Pat Wendel; brother, John (Sally) Loughren; nephew, Mikeal Loughren; sisters-in-law, Pat Frasher and Shirley Elliott; and brothers-in-law, Harold Frasher, Melvin Lovell, Danny Zeman, and Louis Hovey.
