A North Liberty man has died after being injured in a car crash on Interstate 380.
Brian Benest, 45, was flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after he was involved in a crash Wednesday morning on I-380, near mile marker 10, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report. He died in the hospital Friday, according to his obituary with Lensing Funeral Home.
According to the Iowa State Patrol report, Benest was driving a Chevrolet Equinox northbound on the interstate at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was in the right lane behind a semi-truck being driven by 33-year-old Kevin Porter from Tennessee. Porter was forced to stop for traffic from a previous crash, and Benest hit Porter from behind. Porter was uninjured.
A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held for Benest on Thursday, according to the obituary.
“Anyone who knew Brian knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything and more,” the obituary reads.
