Barbara Ann (Petrak) Schierholz, 87, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at Silver Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marion. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection located at 3500 29th Ave., Marion. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Barbara was born on Sept. 13, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Milo V. and Ruth L. (Elkin) Petrak. She was a 1952 graduate of Marion High School and went on to attend Mercy Nursing Training at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Barbara was united in marriage to Gerold “Jerry” Schierholz on Oct. 1, 1955, in Marion, Iowa. She worked as a registered nurse for many years at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines in the Polio Unit. Barbara then became a homemaker, staying home to raise her family. She later worked for a doctor’s office and then for Nurses House Call as homecare in Cedar Rapids. Barbara was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion, Beta Sigma Phi, Comforting Hands Quilting and the Embroiderer’s Guild of America. She enjoyed quilting, cross stitching and making crafts. Barbara loved playing Bridge and collecting stuff. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Barbara is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 67 years, Jerry Schierholz of Marion; son, Steven Dean Schierholz of Marion; three grandchildren, Lacy McCullough, Tyler Dean Schierholz and Colbie Diane Schierholz; her twin sister, Beverly J. Trimble of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jeannine M. Schierholz; brother, J.C. Petrak; and brother-in-law, Jerry Trimble.
Memorials in Barbara’s memory may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
