Marilyn Frances Schmidt, 87, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital due to heart complications. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Marilyn was born in Davis County, Iowa, on July 24, 1935, to Dow and Beula Smothers. She married Lowell Waybill and together they had five children, Dyanna Conner (friend, Dave), Myron (Diane Courtney) Waybill, Connie (Mark) Petersen, Ron Waybill and Sheila Kauffman.
She married Glenn Schmidt and together they lived in Watkins, Iowa, for 24 years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church while in Watkins. Marilyn worked at Rockwell Collins as an inspector for over 30 years. She was a member of IBEW local 1362. After her retirement, she was a greeter at the Marion Walmart well into her 80s. She attended Mass at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church weekly.
In addition to her children, Marilyn is survived by her grandchildren, Dawn (Leon) Noska, Casey Conner, Summer (Jeff) Hagy, Sam Elgin, Jamie Waybill, Aaron Waybill, Aaron Henderson, Shane Waybill and Melonie Waybill; several great-grandchildren; and special friends, Dudley Greiner and JoLynn Hennessey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings; and husband, Glenn.
