Pamala Marie (Cate) Gantz went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Sia officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at St. Patrick Parish Hall. A Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Family Committal Services will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. To honor her memory and the people she chose to help, memorial funds have been set up at St. Patrick’s Church and with the Iowa City Community School District.
Pamala was born in Aurora, Ill., in 1943, and was lovingly adopted by Herb and June (Larue) Cate. Pam attended Sacred Heart grade school, Madonna High School, Waubonsee Community College and the American Institute of Banking in Chicago.
She was united in marriage to Perry Roger Gantz, and from their union came a beautiful daughter Jennifer June (Gantz) Long.
Pam had a 40-year career in the banking industry, working at Aurora National Bank and Old Second National Bank in Aurora, Ill. When Pam and Perry relocated to Iowa she worked at Iowa State Bank, U.S. Bank and the UICCU Credit Union.
Pam was an avid reader and loved to decorate her home, wear scarves that match when dressing and host dinner guests. She donated many hours of time to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, being instrumental in the building of the new church and being coordinator of the RCIA as well as Head Usher and co-chairing the Faith Formation Commission. She was always willing to help with her time and talent.
Pam volunteered her time at Kirkwood and Coralville Central Elementary Schools helping students learn their multiplication tables.
Pam is survived by her loving husband, Perry, of 55 years; her beautiful daughter, Jennifer Long; her wonderful son-in-law, Curt; her grandchildren, Claire, Connor, John and Carter; her sister, Judy; her sister-in-law, Karen Miles of San Diego, Calif.; and three nieces, Jennifer Miles, Jennifer Peterson and Amanda Macki.
Pam was preceded in death by her brother, Kent Miles; and brother-in-law, Gailon Johnson.
She will be missed by her family and friends.
