Richard D. “Hank” Wade, 79, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at home with his family present. Visitation for Richard will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Monti Community Center, 2854 Washington Ave., Masonville, Iowa. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Monti Community Center, with the Rev. Susan Higdon officiating. Burial will take place at Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Ryan, with full military honors conducted by Ryan Legion Post 692 and the U.S. Air Force. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
Richard was born on Sept. 30, 1942, rural Ryan, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Roberta (Robinson) Wade. He graduated from West Delaware High School in 1960 and began working for Allis-Chalmers prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He married Mary Lou Lyness on July 26, 1971, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to work at Allis-Chalmers, and then worked at Harnischfeger for 26 years until the factory closed. In his 40s, he enrolled in Hawkeye Tech becoming an FAA Certified Aviation Mechanic and later worked at Terex until his retirement.
He remained busy by taking care of the Silver Creek Cemetery and was active as an officer with the Ryan American Legion. Richard was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting deer, turkey, and ginseng, trapping, fishing and horseback riding. He and Mary Lou loved spending time with family attending the grandkids’ sports activities and was a huge Dodgers fan. Richard was a quiet, gentle man and was known to pitch in and help anyone in need; he could fix about anything. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou Wade of Ryan; children, Jill (Dave) Kull of Parkview, Cathy (Mark) Greif of Central City and Clint (Brandi) Wade of Walker; grandchildren, Tyler, Collin, Conner, Kayla (Daniel) Pike, Lucas, Christopher, Claire, Aubrey and Evan; and his siblings, Keith (Clista) Wade of Colorado, Doug Wade and Marilyn (Gary) Feldmann, both of Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Roberta Wade; sister, Sharon (Allen) Cassel; niece, Nancy Cassel; and great-nephew, William Wade Feldmann.
Memorials may be directed to the Ryan American Legion Post 692.
