Iowa recruiting buzz: August remains relatively quiet for Hawkeyes

Iowa football had an eventful end of June and start of July on the recruiting trail. In a 22-day period, the Hawkeyes had six 2023 commitments.

But August, as it often is, has been a quieter month.

Iowa hasn’t picked up a commitment in the last six weeks, and the frenzy of in-season visits hasn’t begun yet.

It’s not unique to Iowa City. Among the seven teams in the Big Ten West, there’s been only one 2023 commitment so far this month, per Rivals’ database.

However, some prospects across the country have made decisions — enough to change the recruiting rankings slightly.

Committed elsewhere

Class of 2023 linebacker Arvell Reese committed to Ohio State earlier this month. The four-star prospect from Cleveland received an offer from Iowa in April.

Class of 2023 defensive lineman Edric Hill committed to Alabama on Monday. Hill took an unofficial visit to Iowa in April. The Hawkeyes were the Kansas City prospect’s first FBS offer. Four defensive linemen already have committed to Iowa’s 2023 class.

Chris Parson, a dual-threat quarterback from suburban Nashville, committed to Mississippi State. Iowa offered him a scholarship in March 2020, but Iowa no longer needed a quarterback in the 2023 class after Marco Lainez’s commitment in December 2021.
