Alan L. Sponar, 64, of rural Amana, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, following a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pius Catholic Church by the Rev. Jon Seda. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may gather for a visitation on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
There are no immediate survivors. Alan was preceded in death by his mother, Jean; father Francis; and brother, Kevin.
Alan Lynn Sponar was born July 5, 1958, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, the first son of Francis and Jean (Bahndorf) Sponar. He graduated from Amana High School in 1976 and then attended Kirkwood Community College, majoring in Communications Electronics, graduating with honors and high honors. Alan was holder of a General Class Radiotelephone Operator's license and a commercial FCC license, which he got while attending Kirkwood, which eventually became a lifetime license. He was a member of St. Pius X Church, and served in several committees over the years. Alan worked as an electronics technician for most of his life, providing technical support for a TV shop, Appliance Factory, Broadcast MSO, and a computer shop.
