Margaret “Maggie” Ann Hall of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2022. She had just celebrated her 92nd birthday. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Maggie was born in Enfield, Middlesex, England, on Aug. 20, 1930. As a young woman she was a proficient secretary and took first place in Britain in a typing contest. She met her husband, John, when they both attended a Young Conservatives political meeting. Maggie was an amazing wife and mother to her four daughters. She always supported her husband in his career, immigrating to the United States in 1969 for his move to work for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. She made many friends in Cedar Rapids and was active in multiple bridge groups, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a member of PEO International, a philanthropic organization of “women helping women reach for the stars.” She was active in the First Lutheran Church of Cedar Rapids where she was a lector. She loved children and had a second career working in the library of Franklin Junior High School, from which she retired after many years.

Maggie was always smiling, selfless, and thinking of others’ needs ahead of her own. She was an amazing cook and hosted countless dinner parties in her home at Country Club Parkway. She loved flowers in her garden and watching birds, squirrels and chipmunks, for whom she always supplied an abundance of snacks!

Maggie is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, John; her daughters, Geraldine “Gel” (Ken Fotey) Hall, Rosalyn “Roz” Cooper and Lucy “Victoria” Hall; a number of grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Preedy; and her parents, Betsy and Ron Fouracres.

The family would like to thank Cottage Grove Place residents and staff for making it a wonderful environment for Maggie over the last six years.

Memorial donations may be made in Maggie’s memory to Habitat for Humanity, Doctors without Borders, or the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
