Michael Grant Carpenter, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a brief illness. Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at Oakland Church of the Nazarene by Pastor Dave King. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Michael is survived by his parents, Grant and Trudy Carpenter of Cedar Rapids; sister, Lee Ann (Ron) Moreland of Cleveland, Ohio; sister-in-law, Patrice Carpenter of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; uncles, Daniel (Alma) Boone of Oceanside, Calif., and Keith Carpenter of Frisco, Texas; and close friend, Leanne Pearson of Sedona, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by brother, D. Keith Carpenter, who passed away in 2021.
Michael was born on Feb. 5, 1957, in Los Angeles, Calif., son of Grant and Trudy Boone Carpenter. He received a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University and worked as a software engineer.
Michael was a licensed pilot, a Master chess player and a voracious reader. He was knowledgeable on many topics and was blessed with a beautiful voice. Michael loved Shakespeare and attended Shakespeare in the Park in Kansas City yearly; he also performed in a local Shakespeare production at Ushers Ferry. Michael was a devoted son and brother, and will be deeply missed.
