Jewell Ellad Trumbull, 91, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jewell’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at the Coggon American Legion Hall Post 362, located at 200 First St. N. in Coggon, where the family will greet friends and family from 2 p.m. until the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Coggon Cemetery in Coggon.
Ellad was born on April 5, 1931, in Rosebud, Ark., the daughter of Lester Ray and Mahala (Mummert) Irwin. On March 1, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Walter Trumbull in Seaside, Calif. Ellad worked for Rockwell Collins and then switched to the best full-time mom and housewife for her family. She also was an Avon representative for many years. Ellad was an elder of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon. She also was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary both in Coggon. Ellad enjoyed fishing, home-grown gardens, flowers, cards, casinos, and putting puzzles together. Ellad and Bob loved wintering in California. They would stay with her younger sister, Elzena, and her husband Larry. Sadly, Elzena passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, just eight days prior to Ellad’s passing.
Ellad is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, Bob Trumbull of Coggon; three children, Thera (Paul) Nelson of Marion, Jacqueline (Wayne) Meier of Ely and Robert T. Trumbull of Cathedral City, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Deanna Trumbull of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Leia Nelson, Luke (Bobbie) Nelson, Chelsey (Jeremy) Oberreuter, Curtis Meier (Samantha Adams), Jessica (Ryan) Kohls, Austin Trumbull and Logan Trumbull; six great-grandchildren, Tristian, Treyton, Tressa, Nicolas, Tavan and Kyen; brother-in-law, Don Trumbull of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; youngest son, Ray Trumbull; Bobby’s partner, Larry Rupprecht; three brothers, J.D. (Dee) Irwin, Edward (Lester) Irwin and Ray Ellsworth (Cotton) Irwin; three sisters, Faye Story, Kathleen Ford and Elzena Mae Goodell; and in-laws, Beverly Trumbull and Nyle and Corinne Sauer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ellad’s memory may be made to the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy at 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233.
