Charles was born on July 7, 1931, to George and Charlene (Long) Nosley in Lisbon, Iowa. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1949 where his activities included baseball, basketball, band, Junior and Senior plays and the Annual staff. He attended the University of Iowa in 1949/1950 for one semester. On Feb. 12,1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Dixie Lee Mason.
Chuck then attended Coyne Electrical and Radio-Television School in Chicago and received his diploma Oct. 6, 1950. They moved back to Cedar Rapids and both went to work for Hoover Appliance Co. Mid 1951, Chuck accepted a job at Collins Radio Co. as a test technician. In February 1952, he was drafted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
Chuck went to boot camp at Fort Riley, Kan., and from there to Fort Monmouth, N.J. He graduated with an MOS in Microwave Relay Transmission. He was then sent to the Far East command and was assigned to a camp in Yokohama, Japan. For 13 months, he worked on a survey team to select sites for constructing microwave radio relay links throughout the main island of Japan. The Korean War ended in June of 1953 and Corporal Nosley was discharged December 31,1953.
Having the GI Bill, Chuck enrolled in the University of Iowa in February 1954 to pursue an engineering degree. He graduated February 8, 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
After graduation, Chuck accepted a job at the Chrysler Corporation Missile Division in Detroit, Mich. When business started to decrease at Chrysler, Chuck took a position at Sundstrand Corporation in Rockford, Ill.
After his father passed away in 1978, they decided to return to Iowa where he was offered a position at Rockwell Collins. He worked in various departments and retired in January 1994.
After retirement, he kept busy doing various jobs. He stayed involved in the K-12 program that Collins implemented with several local schools and he served as liaison/teacher at Taft Middle School. He served on the Board of Directors of the Willowridge Condo Association for many years. He was initially a member of First Baptist Church in Marion and served two years as Chairman. Later he joined Marion Christian Church and served for two years as Chairman and several years as an Elder. To get away from the ice and snow, they wintered in Pharr, Texas. Chuck was a member of Kiwanis.
Chuck’s special interests were public speaking (especially roasting friends), playing softball, golf, contract bridge, managing his own investments, making things “better” and fixing just about anything. He was especially interested in his family. In his spare time he was always remodeling, painting and changing something in their homes.
Chuck is survived by his daughter, Candice McCulloch (Kevin) of Rockford, Ill.; a son, Kyle (Theresa) of Hiawatha, Iowa; four grandsons, Patrick McCulloch (Rachel) of Sugar Grove, Ill., Andrew McCulloch (Margo) of Roscoe, Ill., Nathan of Des Moines, Iowa, and Noah of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mardell Kohl.
