Edwin Dale Hrubes, 84, passed away on July 6, 2022, in Henderson, Nev., following a sudden illness.
He was born on April 13, 1938, in Mason City, Iowa, to Elsie and Frank Hrubes. Graduated from Garner High School and was athlete lettering in football, basketball, track and baseball. Ed entered the U.S. Navy, serving in San Diego and the Philippines.
Ed studied at UCLA and Hamilton Business College. Where he continued as an instructor. He married his wife Marilyn on Dec. 27, 1963, in Forest City, Iowa. His career continued in insurance sales and administration taking him and his family to Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Enjoying challenges, he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska, to start wholesale and retail businesses while also pursuing his pilot’s license. The family lived in Alaska for 10 years, then relocated to the Las Vegas area to work in the flooring industry making numerous friends at the casinos as a trusted partner.
Ed enjoyed following his family’s athletic, academic and professional pursuits and successes.
He enjoyed traveling the world visiting Asia, Europe and South America. As well as almost all the 50 states.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin; and son, Greg.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn of Henderson, Nev.; son, Jeff (Kathy) Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Kelsey Skaja (Blake) Seattle, Wash., and Cole Hrubes Cedar Rapids; brother, Duane (Bobbi) Hrubes of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, Al (Sharon) Hrubes Durango, Colo.; sisters, Kathy Chamberlin (John) of Anchorage and Carol Schuller (John) of Anchorage; and sister-in-law, Sue Hrubes Woodbridge, Va.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 20, at Green Valley Lutheran Church in Henderson, Nev. A private family burial will take place at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nev.
