Mark Phillips, 66 of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 3, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of Mark’s life in Decorah at a later date.
Mark was born on Jan. 16, 1956, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Marcelline and Loretta (Anderson) Phillips. He attended grade school at St. Benedicts and graduated from Decorah High School. Mark went on to achieve a welding degree. Mark was employed at FMC Cedar Rapids as a welder and inspector, then Jennerjohn Well drilling in Decorah and finished his career with Linn County Secondary Roads & Bridge crew until retirement. A real outdoors man. Mark loved fishing, gardening and spending time on the farm. He was very mechanically inclined and could fix anything. Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Mark’s memory are his three siblings, Peter (Karen) Phillips, Patricia (Fred) Axmear and Marcia (Lance)Radeke; a brother-in-law, Mark Opat; special friend, Barbara Bright; and loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Opat; and a brother-in-law, David Bucheit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.
We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital who showed kindness and took great care of our loved one, and the staff at the hospice house for their amazing care given to Mark.
