Ronald L. Coffin, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Aug 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, from 2 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom, until time of memorial service, 3 p.m. in the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A luncheon will follow at Faith Lutheran Church, 155 Boyson Road, Marion, IA 52302.
Ron is survived by his wife, Bunny Coffin; children, Ron Coffin II, Steve Coffin and Penny Ripley, all of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Nathan Brandis and Alex Brandis, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Andrew Ripley and Megan Ripley, Emily Pettit, Erica Coffin, Grant Coffin, Courtney Coffin, Conner Coffin and Mollie Coffin; stepgrandchildren, Adriana Brandis, Carter Brandis, Bry Brandis and Danika Brandis; and siblings, Kae Coffin and Deb Judisch, both of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mickey Coffin; brother, Paul Coffin Jr.; first wife, Cherie Coffin; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Coffin.
Ronald was born on May 13, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mickey (McElvogue) Coffin. Ron graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State and Columbia University with his Master of Science in Engineering. He worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey from 1963 to 1968. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 30 years. Ron enjoyed electronics, woodworking and computer programming. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him!
