Kathy (Braun) Werning, 96, died Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at St. John Cemetery, rural Newhall with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. For those of you who know Kathy, you have probably heard many stories and reflections about Central Lutheran School. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Central Lutheran School.
Kathy lived a blessed and long life. She loved her husband Delbert, son Tim, grandsons, parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and Delbert’s family.
Kathy grew up in beautiful farm country near Falls City, Neb., and then in St. Joseph, Mo. Kathy raised her son Tim in Omaha. Later in life, Kathy married Delbert Werning. Kathy and Delbert lived many happy years on Delbert’s farm, and they especially liked gardening and farm life together. As a career Lutheran school teacher in Omaha and Newhall, Kathy did the work she was called and loved to do. She had a lot of joy in teaching children and in sharing Jesus’ love with her students. She worked in pre-kindergarten and elementary programs. In later years, she was in contact through her church with many who had been her students, and she greatly appreciated their kindness to her. Kathy liked studying and earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Concordia University in Seward, Neb., and a Master’s Degree at the University of Iowa. Kathy loved studying the Bible and singing Lutheran hymns. She also played many of those hymns on the piano. During her years at the Lutheran Home in Vinton, Kathy helped prepare the chapel room for Sunday services and the weekly bulletin board announcements. Kathy made a point of spreading kindness and cheer to other residents and staff.
