Raymond G. “Sonny” Brown, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on July 26, 2022, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a visitation to begin one hour prior. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Ray was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Raymond D. and Dorothy (Power) Brown. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1947 and was united in marriage to Irma Brown on Dec. 6, that same year. He worked for the Cedar Rapids Parks Department and as a realtor and appraiser, retiring in 2010. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.
Ray was a proud family man. He adored his grandchildren and never missed one of their games. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling in the RV with his wife, Irma. Ray built two houses by hand for his family, and he worked with his brother and father in carpentry. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his daughter, Deb (Ken “Bear”) Stalkfleet; grandchildren, Josh (Dawn) Peek, Cory (Shawn) Hall, Angie (James) Pinegar, Jesse Throgmartin, Dean Sturgeon, Casey (Jason) Wells, Bill (Karee) Stalkfleet and Patrick Stalkfleet; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irma; son, Mike; brother, Cliff; and sister, LaVonne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sharon United Methodist Church.
