James D. Skog
James D. Skog
Fort Collins, Colo.
On Friday, July 15, 2022, James Douglas (Jim) Skog, loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle, passed away at the age of 66. His cause of death was incurable, aggressive multiple myeloma, which he fought courageously for 19 months.
Jim was born Sept. 6, 1955, to Clarence and Jean Skog in Keokuk, Iowa. He grew up in Iowa City, graduated from City High School in 1974, attended the University of Iowa where he received a BBA in Finance, and the University of Wyoming where he earned an MBA. In August of 1979 he married Susan Stuekerjuergen. Together they raised two sons, Jeffrey and Evan.
Jim began a successful career with Hewlett-Packard in Boise, Idaho, in the fall of 1979. In 1985 he and Susan moved to Fort Collins, Colo., where they raised their family. He worked with Hewlett-Packard for almost 28 years serving as HP’s laser printer product manager. He helped market the laser printer globally, including an extended assignment in Europe. After HP, Jim became international accounts director for Nordson Medical and later its Global Market Development manager.
Jim loved traveling, meeting new friends, and experiencing new cultures. For work and pleasure, Jim visited 40 different countries. He loved hiking and camping and climbed 32 of Colorado’s 14ers. He shared his love of the beautiful Colorado mountains with anyone who visited.
He also ran triathlons and loved riding his bike in the Northern Colorado Rockies. Following retirement he enjoyed riding RAGBRAI for four years, twice with his “brother” Wayne Fett as part of the St. Ambrose RAGBRAI team, led by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Steve Conrad.
Jim believed in giving back his whole life. As a young man he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and led younger Scouts at the Philmont Ranch in New Mexico. In his adult life he supported homeless shelters, the Arc, the Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and Susan’s international philanthropic efforts to provide refugees with housing, medicine, food, education and safety.
Jim is survived by his wife, Susan (Stuekerjuergen) Skog, Fort Collins, Colo.; his sons, Jeffrey, Fort Collins, Colo., and Evan Skog, Denver, Colo.; his parents, Clarence and Jean Skog, Iowa City, Iowa; his sisters, Julie Colony and Janet Smith (Gordon Tribbey) of Iowa City, as well as many other dear family members and friends.
A celebration of Jim’s life took place in June, allowing Jim and Susan to share in the love of family and friends.
