John R. Knowlton, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
John was born on Jan. 31, 1928. He was united in marriage to Viola Barrow on July 2, 1951.
John was a quiet, kind and gentle man. He was loved by everyone who knew him. In his younger years John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He liked to work in the yard and around his garage and loved to play cards, especially rook.
John is survived by his daughters, Ruth Heiken and Sue (Tim) Kline; sister, Mary Stevenson; grandchildren, Dawn (Patrick) Waters, Annette (Tommie) Mercer, Danny (Darcy) Heiken, Blake Heiken, Sean (Diane) Heiken, Jeff (Karen) Miller, Wayne Garvey, Traci (Robert) Forman and Bryan Garvey; 14 great-grandchildren; niece, Theresa Shaver; and brother-in-law, Gene Van Horn.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Viola Knowlton; parents; daughter, Delores; son, Wayne; and granddaughter, Kelly Miller.
