Marvin Ellsworth Evenson, 76, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Sharon United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Private Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Marv was born on Sept. 27, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Abner Ellsworth and Mavis Surene (Gangsei) Evenson. He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1963. After graduating from high school, Marv served his country in the United States Navy. He then attended NIACC and studied drafting. He was united in marriage to Marcia M. Powell on May 31, 1975, in Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Marv was proud of his full Norwegian heritage and was an avid Vikings fan. He really enjoyed camping with the love of his life. He also enjoyed attending all of his grandkids’ activities and spending time with them. His hobbies include putting together puzzles, fishing, bird watching, and co-ed church softball. He was a faithful member of Sharon church and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He loved spending time with friends whether it was around a campfire, on a cruise, or just sitting around a table playing dominos.
Marv continued to help others after passing by being a tissue donor.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marcia of Cedar Rapids; children, Cynthia (Joey) Chyma of Cedar Rapids, Stacey (Matt Childs) Evenson of North Liberty and Nathan (Amanda Miskimen) Evenson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Tyler (Lindy), Cassie and Zoie Pasker, Parker, Lexi and Maddie Chyma, Leland Evenson, Jayden Miskimen and Micah, Jo and Marc Childs; sister, Ann (Bill) Satre of Albert Lea, Minn.; and many extended relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be directed to Sharon United Methodist Church.
