Jerry L. Goad, 85, of Marion, formerly of Marengo, passed away July 14, 2022, at his home. Funeral service with military honors conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post 76 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard will be held at noon Wednesday, July 20, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with the Rev. John Moss officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, July 20, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials in Jerry’s name may be contributed to Camp Courageous, in Monticello.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda; three children, Michael (Pamela) Goad of Springville, Mitchell Goad of Marion and Mary Goad of Marion; seven grandchildren, Christian Goad, Ashley Goad, Kolton Brandt, Gabrielle Goad, Gracie Goad, Michaela Goad and Dawson Goad; and one great-grandchild, Leilani Goad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Sylvia Goad; his mother and father-in-law, Wilford and Aileen Jones; two brothers, Henry and Lloyd Goad; two sisters-in-law, Helen and Loretta Goad; and three nephews, Phil, Ron and Jody Goad.

Jerry LaMar Goad was born April 5, 1937, in Bussey, the son of Estil and Sylvia (Allen) Goad. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1955. He continued his education at Northwest Institute of Medical Technology and received a degree in clinical laboratory and X-ray. Jerry married the love of his life, Linda Jones, on Nov. 9, 1961, in LaChapelle-St., France. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, stationed in Orleans, France, six years in the U.S. Army National Guard in Phillipsburg, Kan., and 13 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, in Cedar Rapids. Jerry worked as a clinical lab and X-ray technician, spanning 40 years of service, which was usually 24/7 hours on call, serving people.

In his spare time, he was a member of the Marengo American Legion, Jaycees, Lions Club and Boy Scout Master (1970-1974). He especially enjoyed clearing and working on the acreage northwest of Marengo, called the “North 4” raising all kinds of animals, being a bee keeper, vegetable gardening, and sitting by the campfire with many friends. Jerry took a short break from the hospital work in the 80’s to become an agent for New York Life, but soon returned to his work as a lab/X-ray technician and remained there until his retirement in 1999 where he relocated to Toddville and became involved in the Kiwanis Club. His interest turned to woodworking, winemaking, traveling and enjoying the additions to the family. In 2003, Marion became the family’s new place of residence on five acres of land with lots of trees which turned his woodworking into a wonderful art of woodturning, making pens out of different trees and gifts for the family. Crosswords were a morning ritual. Love and devotion to his family baking wonderful pies for the get-togethers, going on family outings and just being a dad and grandpa. Altogether, Jerry was a great example of being a loving servant, handyman and teacher who will be greatly missed.
