Expand editorial page to carry both sides

I am responding to Mr. Dorman's Insight article from June 30, entitled "Don't Scrap Opinion Pages." I think they should be expanded to carry both sides of an issue. The Des Moines Register states that Readers "don't believe we have the expertise to tell anyone what to think on most issues. They perceive us as having a biased agenda." To that I say AMEN!
Look at the national articles The Gazette runs. They all come from the usual suspects. (Washington Post, Bloomberg, etc.) That in itself is all the proof we need to see. You mention that the "pressure on newspapers to become timid bastions of bothsidesism is coming from the political right." I agree. Opinions that are conservative are the ones that are being repressed. The fact is, honest opinions from both, the right or the left, should be given a fair hearing.
I really don't need to read Dorman's insights anymore. I scan the headline to see what the topic is, reference the daily talking points from the Democrat Party, and I automatically know what is probably included in the article. It's really quite a timesaver. Cedar Rapids deserves a paper that offers both sides of the issues. What we don't need is a publication that is so thoroughly biased to the left-wing agenda that the opinions from the right are simply canceled.
